On behalf of Nritya Aradhana Research Centre (Mumbai), veteran dance critic Satish Mehta oranised a two day dance festival known as Nrityankur Festival at Yeshwantrao Natyagriha. Young talented dancers featuring varied classical dances performed with lot of excitement. Bharata Natyam and Kathak dominated the festival.

Dancers who participated in the festival were Dr. Vijaya Sharma from Bhopal, Jignesh Surani from Rajkot, Minakshi Behera's Bhubaneshwar Kala Kendra, Swati Bhalerao from Nagpur, Adhira from Kasarakode, Dr Nipa Thakkar from Bhavnagar, Palak Tiwari from Raipur and Isha Dave from Bhavnagar. After a brief performance by the disciples of Dr. Nipa Thakkar, accomplished Kathak exponent from Bhopal Dr Vijaya Sharma and her disciples performed a pleasing Kathak recial, the highlight performance was Hori that depicted the festival of colours, the dancers used the petals of flowers to signify colour and festivity which was quite refreshing and a visual delight. The grand finale was the Kalavati Tarana.

Jignesh Surani and his group performed a delightful Bharata Natyam recital that comprised the Gujarati compoisition of Narsi Mehta "Swami Amaro Jag So" in praise of Lord Krishna and also featured the Kaliya episode. The dancers also performed Shree Rama Chandra Krupalu in praise of Lord Rama and the Shiva Panchaakshara shlokam quite well.

Another Kathak dancer who impressed with her commanding and precise performance was Swati Bhalerao from Nagpur. While Adhira's Mohiniattam was partially pleasing, Palak Tiwari was sparkling and Isha Dave group was pleasing too. An interesting festival indeed.
