Veteran scenographer Baba Parsekar, will be felicitated with the 'Natvarya Prabhakar Panshikar Rangbhumi Lifetime Award’, by State Government’s culture department at a function to be held at the Prabodhankar Thackeray Theatre in Borivali on November 20.

At the age of 75 years, Baba is both agile and enthusiastic. He has been regularly shuttling between Mumbai and Poona and he recently staged blockbuster Marathi plays 'Ithe Oshalala Mrutyu' and 'Raigadala Jevha Jaag Yete' with a new technique in Poona. He also staged 'Avgha Rang Ekchi Jhala' in Goa, teaming up with another veteran 91-year-old vocalist Prasad Sawkar. He is planning to stage this play in Mumbai  also. Besides this, the ever-enthusiastic Baba is now in the process of staging the new Marathi play 'Yes My Dear' with Rajaram Shinde.

“Once the stage-curtain goes up, viewers should be able to see something catchy and they should keep on imagining what more is in the store, as the play progresses,” said Baba while speaking exclusively to the Afternoon D & C. He has been a scenographer for 485 plays until now and is absolutely confident to cross the mark of 500 plays. In 1964 he made his entry in professional theatre with 'Sagara Maajha Praan' staged by Nandkumar Raote and has not looked back for the last 53 years.

An alumnus of the J. J. School of Arts, he worked in all streams of theatre, like experimental mainstream and armature. After handling one act plays staged by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, under guidance of Damu Kenkre, he worked with Vijaya Mehta. He bagged an award for Marathi play 'Kavlyanchi Shala', written by Vijay Tendulkar, at the state level competition.
