The Nrityadarpana Foundation and Art of Living and Performance (ALAP) organised a Kathak performance, based on a workshop conducted by Padmashri Pratap Pawar at the Akhil Bharatiya Mahila Sangh hall in Matunga. It was a delight to watch students and dancers perform with a lot of enthusiasm and sincerity.

Nrityadarpana Foundation is headed by accomplished Kathak exponent and actress Paullomi Mukherjee, who has performed in several prestigious festivals all over India and abroad. ALAP is the cultural wing of Art of Living Foundation of spiritual mentor Sri Sri Ravishankar. Sunil Sunkara is a talented Kathak dancer who represents ALAP. These two organisations came forward to organise a Kathak workshop by the veteran mentor Pandit Pratap Pawar. On the last day, there was a performance wherein students displayed what they learnt.

Pt. Pratap Pawar is one of the seniormost disciples of Pandit Bhirju Maharaj and is also the recepient of the prestigious Padmashri award. He has been living in London, for decades together and is greatly responsible for presenting Kathak on the international platform and has also trained several aspirants in the field of Kathak. Many of them have become professionals too.

The students performed Ganesh Vandana, followed with pure dance patterns in Teentaal. It was interesting to watch as to how the dancers performed with involvement and concern, revealing their love for Kathak and as to how the veteran maestro could add grace and subtlelty to their performance. The dancers concluded with an intricate Tarana which was noteworthy for its precision and technical quality. Kudos to Paullomi and Sunil for inviting the great maestro.
