Inner Courtyard in association with Yashwantaro Chavan Pratisthan presented renowned Odissi exponent Padmashree Illeana Citaristi and the Art Vision group in the presentation of two dance-dramas, Siddhartha and Kurnua at the Y B Chavan auditorium, last week.

Based on Hermann Hesse's Siddhartha, written in 1922, is a book that has inspired a whole generation of youth on their spiritual journey of reawakening of the better values of life  Siddhartha the protagonist is a young Brahmin who is in search of self-realisation, he wanders after leaving his paternal home and as an ascetic he has strange experiences in life and is desperate and finally finds peace in the banks of the river where an old boatman teaches him the meaning of life. Scripted by Devadas Chhotray with melodious music by Aanda Prasaan Pattnaik, Siddharta entertains and educates the deeper meaning of life with suitable and graceful choreography by Illeana Citarist.

The role of Siddhartha was played by the bright and graceful dancer Saswat Joshi. The other dancers included Illeana as the boatman, Minata Mohapatra, Anindita Parida, Mousumi Mohapatra, Upasana Mohanty, DibyaSuparkar Kashis Bharati, and Sagarika Mohanty. The boys who performed Malkhamb was the highlight of the presentation.

A humble tribute to Mother Teresa who attained sainthood due to selfless and compassionate concern for the poor and the underpriveleged was presented. Infact Karuna is the dance of life powerfully enacted and performed by Illeana and the Art Vision group. With a philosphical message of reaching out to the supreme through the service of humanity it was well received by the audience.

Art Vision has been founded by Illeana in Bhubaneshwar in order to encourage artists from varied disciplines to cometogether to form a new creative statement. Illeana conducts classes in Odissi and Chhau and the group has already performed in several prestigious festivals both in India and abroad.
