Legendary Lata-didi scores 90!
A book titled 'Motthi Teechhi Saavli' (her huge shadow) in Marathi – written by legendary Lata Mangeshkar's younger sister Meena Mangeshkar-Khadilkar – will be released at the hands of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumita Mahajan, on Lata's 90th birthday, at Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi, Mumbai, on Friday, September 28. On the occasion, a special program titled 'Anandghan', based on the Marathi songs composed by Lata, will be presented by her brother Pt. Hridaynath to mark completion of 75 years of her musical career. In the program Usha Mangeshkar, Madhura Datar and others will perform. Shivshahir Babasaheb Purandare will preside over the function. The book seeks to depict how Lata brought up her siblings with affection, after the untimely demise of her father Pt Dinanath. Yet the book focuses on her witty nature and her experience in grooming their careers under her guidance, according to Meena-tai. As part of Lata-didi's birthday celebration, yet another musical programme has also been organised by Sunil Bhagwat, at Dinanath in Vile Parle at 8.30 pm on the same day. Noted stalwart, singer Suresh Wadkar will preside.

Colorful nritya-utsav
The Abhinaya Institute of Research and Fine Arts (Vasai), with support from the Sangeet Natak Academy, has organised a two-day dance festival on September 29 and 30 at the Bhandari Samaj Hall, Vasai, from 5.00 pm onwards. Manipuri dance by Reepa Devi, Sudip Kumar Ghosh, Latasana Dev, and Anusana Devi; Mohiniattam by students of Guru Geetha V. Shankar; Odissi by Sharon Lowen; Kuchipudi by Venkat from Hyderabad and Bharatanatyam by other students.

‘Boys 2’ trailer released
A trailer of Marathi film 'Boys 2' – the sequel to 'Boys', was released, with the film set to be released all over Maharashtra on October 5. Avdhut Gupte won the hearts by singing a song on the occasion. Sumant Shinde, Parth Bhalerao and Pratik Lad are in lead roles in this film. Besides, the seasoned artists Yatin Karlekar, Girish Kulkarni and Pallavi Patil are also essaying important roles. Onkar B, Soham K, Sayli P, Shubhangi P and Akshata P are making debut through this film. Although the trailer contains love and college romance in the life of youth, it also highlights groupism and rivalry. The trailer carries the story of three 'Atarangi' (naughty) youth – Dhairya, Dhungya and Kabir.

Sumeet-Mrinal together – pehli baar
Actors Sumeet Raghvan and the beautiful Mrinal Kulkarni have come together for the first time in Marathi film 'Home, Sweet Home' – directed by (actor) Hrishikesh Joshi and releasing on September 28. Sumit and Mrinal have proved their mettle in many plays, serials and films; but it is for the first time they are working together. Similarly, Mohan Joshi and Sumit Raghavan will be seen together for the first time, in this film. The film seeks to depict relations between people residing at home and many imaginary and emotional aspects of their life. Spruha Joshi, Hrishikesh Joshi, Vibhavari Deshpande, Kshiti Jog and Prasad Oak are essaying important roles.

Darbaari mehfil
'Navraspur' was an imagined city coneptualized by the 16th century Bijapur Prince Adil Shah. He wrote poems, encouraged musicians, painters and artistes in general. A programme of his songs based on raagdari will be presented by senior Gwalior gharana singer Neela Bhagwat. She will be accompanied by Farooque Latif on sarangi and on tabla by Sandeep Pawar. Visuals of the paintings will be accompanied by a commentary by the scholar Elroy Pinto. Madame Cama Hall, Savarkar Smarak, Shivaji Park, Dadar (W), on Sunday, September 30, 5.00-7.30 pm.
