Sargam-nritya utsav
'Dhani' presents 'Faguntstava', a colourful evening of music and dance at Prabodhankar Thakare Hall, Borivali on Friday December 16 at 8.45 pm. Pt Amarendra Dhaneshwar (vocal), Ranjeet Pathak (santoor) and kathak dance jugalbandi by Jayashri Achyarya and Prachi Dixit. Accompanists: Farooque Latif (Sarangi), Ajeet Pathak, Tejovrush Joshi (tabla) and Swastika Joshi (vocal). Pt Ronu Majumdar to preside over the function. Admission free
 
Maharashtra folk art comes alive

The 11th Folk Art Cultural Festival, 18 organised by the Maharashtra Lok Kalwant Pratisthan at Sant Tukaram Maidan in Thane, received an overwhelming response.
Dance guru  Manjiri Deo, danseuse Surekha Katkar, comedian Ashish Pawar, Prabhakar More and others enthralled the audience by performing enchanting dance sequences including koli dance. The programme began with Lok Kala Dindi (a palanquin procession). After invoking blessings of Lord Ganesha, Shahir Shantaram Chavan sang a song while Shahir Ramesh Nakhwa presented a 'Vaghya Murli' dance. Highlight of the programme was a ballad 'Marathi Paul Padhate Pudhe' based on life and times of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Shahir Datta Thule presented a recital 'Amhi Ambeche Gondhali' invoking blessings of Goddess Durga.
 
Musical  launch of Marathi film
The music of  Marathi film 'Tulaa Pann Baashing Bandhaaychay' was recently launched at the hands of Chetan Bhingare, in Mumbai. The film, slated to be released on  March 30, deals with traditions and takes stock of various social issues related with marriage. State Minister Pankaja-tai Munde extended best wishes to the film on the occasion. The film, is directed by Bhanudas Vyavhare, has a impressive cast of Vikram Gokhale, Suresh Vishwakarma,Yatin Karekar, Sunil Godbole, Bhakti Chavan, Shweta Kharat, Suvarna Kale, Ritesh Nagrale, Rahul Patil, Harsha Sharma, Arjun Jadhav and Shankar Suryavanshi.
 
Trailer launch of  ‘Quarter’
A trailer of the Marathi short film 'Quarter' was recently launched at a function. Director Navjyot Bandiwadekar, actress  Girija Oak, Godbole, Sameer Samant, Anmol Bhave, Prashant Rane and others were present. The film deals with human emotions on a big and wide canvas to present something which is very different. Acclaimed actress Girija Oak-Godbole is appearing in a short film for the first time.

Kala Ratna award for Birju Maharaj
Padmavibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj, the leading exponent of the Lucknow Kalka-Bindalin gharana of kathak dance, was felicitated with “Kalamanjiri the Rhythm of life' award by Sanskriti Cultural Academy (SCA) at a function organised in Yashwant Natya Mandir, in Mumbai. In the first phase 'Arohi, the musical prosody' was staged under direction of Sachin Mhatre, presenting a perfect symphony of instruments. In the second phase kathak danseuse Rupali Desai and Disha Desai honoured Birju Maharaj by performing his 'Ardhnarinateshwar Stuti'. Danseuse Shashwati Sena performed a dance in keeping with the tradition of Lucknow gharana.  Pt. Birju Maharaj himself surprised the audience by presenting different dance recitals.

Kay Kay Menon’s Marathi film debut
Debutant director Lokesh Vijay Gupte’s venture Marathi film ‘Ek Sangaychay – Unsaid Harmony'  is slated to be released on Dassera  day, October 18,  all over Maharashtra. The title of the film was recently launched in Mumbai. The pre-production of the film has begun and it will go on the floors soon. The actor Kay Kay Menon is making his Marathi debut with this film. The film is based on the silent bonding between children and parents.
