Geeta Nritya Vidyalaya, one of the leading dance academies in the Mulund area organises the Chelenga festival every year to encourage young dancers and they also provide a platform to other dancers performing different styles. The festival was held at the spacious Kalidas Mandir Auditorium in Mulund.

Geeta Nritya Vidyalaya is headed by accomplished Bharata Natyam exponent Girija Nair, who has trained several students in Bharata Natyam and some of them have become professionals too, which is quite creditable.

Girija says: ”My students get a chance to choreograph, this is not only improves their confidence but also their creative ability to innovate. On the other hand,I invite other dancers as young dancers do not have many abilities and they are quite anxious to showcase their talent, this is small step to encourage them”

It was interesting to watch different styles being performed that included Kuchipudi as well. Students of Takshshila Nritya Kala Mandir performed 'Rangu Kirtance Rangi. Sadhu Navvidha Bhakti" in the Bharata Natyam style with choreography by their mentor Kashmira Trivedi and dancers were Madhura P, Shital, Bharti, Shraddha, Pratibha, Sakshi, Yadavi, Shreya, Ruchi, Nakshatra, Arya, Prathama, Chhaya, Delisha, Tanisha and Sampada.

Based on the Marathi 'abhanga' the dancers danced with devotion and sincerity, incorporating the nine types of devotion for the Lord through the medium of 'karma' and 'bhakti', nature, behaviour and good deeds.

The dancers received fine vocal support from the melodious singing by Manoj Desai, mridangam. Ghatam and kanjira were by the ace percussionist Satish Krishnamurty and flute by Vijay Tembe. On the whole it was pleasing to watch young dancers perform..
