Nrityamandalam Dance Academy (Vashi) organised a unique programme of classical dances in order to donate for cancer patients at Marathi Sahitya Mandir in Vashi, last week. The festival known as Nrityaarpanam was inaugurated by the veteran Mohiniattam danseuse and dance educationist Padmabhushan Dr Kanak Rele.

On behalf of Nrityamandalam, director and danseuse Sahely Mukherjee felicitated some outstanding mentors and exponents like Dr Uma Rele, principal of Nalanda Nritya Mahavidyalaya, Guru Deepak Mazumdar, Dr Sandhya Purecha, Guru Jayashree Nair, Kashmira Trivedi, Latasana Devi, Nivedita Mukherjee, Pradip Kumar Lahiri, Ridhant Mazumdar. Rahul Dev Mondal (Kolkatta), Jaishree Nair, programme organiser M.K.Patel and others.

The programme commenced with the invocation performance by the students of Nrityamandalam, trained by Sahely Mukherjee.. Sahely performed Bho Shambo that incorporates the cosmic dance of Shiva, who is also known as Mahadeva in the Bharata Natyam style, Beisides the elegant Mohiniattam by Sujata Joshi and the pleasing Manipuri by Latasana Devi, the most impressive performer of the programme was Rahul Dev Mondal from Kolkatta.
Rahul performed the dance of Shiva, describing the varied attributes and glory of the Lord. The varied stances, poses and the "Akash Charis" created a fine impact on the audience. Rahul is asistant professor of dance at Rabindra Bharata University and also has done extensive research on the inter-relation between dance and yoga.

This is the first time that Nrityamandalam has come forward to organise a programme in aid of a social cause. without the support of any corporate sector .If performing arts can serve any social cause, it is really gratifying for a better society and better living.indeed.
