Mudra Traditional Arts Foundation and Mudra Dance Academy (Dombivli) presented the Nritya Utsav of traditional Bharata natyam and other dances at Gandhi auditorium in Kalyan recently. It was a unique occasion for the dance students and parents to watch their children perform to a packed audience.

Mudra Dance Academy was established by accomplished Bharata natyam exponent Vrunda Upadhyaya, who trains several dance aspirants in the field of Bharata natyam and every year they get a chance to perform in the presence of parents and dignitaries.

Vrunda is also privileged to have performed for various prestigious festivals all over India. Amongst the dignitaries present were Dr. Amit Mhatre of Education department, KDMC, philanthropist Prathmesh Pawar, Vikram Kumar, editor of Dance India magazine, Bharata natyam exponent Kashmira Trivedi and Kuchipudi exponent Vijay Shanker.

The programme was entitiled "Krishnanjali"- salutations to Lord Kirishna through the medium of varied dances that encompasses the complete "charitram" of the Lord. After invocations to Lord Ganesha, Sankshipt Bhagwat gives the audience an insight to the essence of the Bhagwat Gita that proclaims the philosophy of performing your duty with utmost sincerity and honesty. While Krishna Ne Begane Baro interprets the "Vatsalya" of mother Yasoda for Krishna, Vallabhacharya's Madhurashtakam interprets the Lord as an incarnation of beauty and aesthetic quality. The dancers also performed Meera bhajan and the Marathi abhang. It was a pleasure to watch children and youngsters performing in the same platform, although some were nervous, one can definitely expect a better performance.

The dancers received fine orchestral support from Vrunda Upadhyaya for vocal and nattuvangam, mridangam by Satish Krishnamurthy, violin by Balasubramaniam, flute by Krishna Kumar and tabla by Devansh Shukla.
