Audience madhosh with Asha Bhosle's 'Josh'

Culture-savvy impresario Durga Jasraj was fully justified in asserting towards the fag-end of the ‘Asha Bhosle Live In Concert’ organized by her, that she along with the 3000 plus houseful audience at Shanmukhananda Hall had come to seek the ‘darshan’ and also get to listen to the Goddess of vocal melody Asha-tai.

As a tribute to the legendary composer-singer Rahul Dev Burman, (his 25th death anniversary) almost all the chartbusting songs (except one which was a Madan Mohan composition) sung ‘live’ by Asha as also by Sudesh Bhosle and (her grandson) Chintu Bhosle were from RDB’s evergreen rich, repertoire. Even as the versatile Asha sang with total ‘josh’ RDB songs like ‘O Mere Sona Re’, ‘Piya Tu Ab Toh Aaja’, ‘Dum Maro Dum’ interspersing them with nuggets of amusing trivia, anchor-host RJ Anmol Sood regaled the audience with his exuberant hosting.

Not surprisingly, it was rhythm-maestro Nitin Shankar and his band of brilliant musicians who had the audiences almost dancing to their tunes. What added precious ecstatic value to this live concert that even while singing, Asha-tai ‘enlightened’ the audience on the ‘bossa nova’ Brazilian rhythm-beats with a demo of her sensuous song ‘Maar Dalega Dard-e-Jigar’ and how RDB used rhythmic clapping in songs like the title song of ‘Yeh Vaada Raha’.

The audience went into raptures when Asha sang her award-winning ‘Mera Kuchh Saaman’ number-‘a capella’- that is without any musical accompaniment and also when she paid her surprise tribute to her revered Didi when she belted out the folksy-duet ‘Jai Jai Shiv Shankar’ (originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar).
