Noted percussionist Prodyut Mukherjee is fairly active on the concert scene with his band 'Rhythm Express'. He remembered the composer Rahuldev Burman in a unique way on the occasion of Rahul's birth anniversary. Burman was famous for his command of rhythm and use of different side rhythm instruments. They were played by extraordinarily talented musicians like Burjor and Kersey Lord. The accent of rhythm lent a special appeal to R.D.'s songs. Prodyut who has been a GIMA winner had devised a special show with emphasis on rhythm in order to pay a tribute to Burman. The program was entitled 'Rhythm Express PANCHAM BEATS'. It was all about R.D. Burman's timeless compositions, which were performed with a twist.

The mukhra of songs was followed by fuse part in which all the instruments were used in a different way to portray the songs. R.D. himself did a lot of experiments in his lifetime be it the quality of the recoding or inventing fresh ideas to enrich music by any means. Songs like 'Tujse Naraj', 'Roz Roz ankho tale', 'Kuchh Na Kaho', 'Tere Bina Zindegi Se Koi', are worth a mention. Musicians who performed include – Prodyut Mukherjee (tabla & mouth percussion), Shouvik Mukherjee (sitar), Sandipan Ganguly (violin), Ray Ari (drums), Sourav Chakraborty & Debdut Chatterjee (keyboard), Ashish Chatterjee (taan sar gam) and Dibbendu Santra (bass guitar ).

Mukherjee said, “It's my humble tribute to the music maestro who was ahead of time. He was truly a global music maker from India. His timeless creations will be remembered by the ages to come.” The show received a big applause from the discerning audience.

Arun Dravid – A truly devoted performer
Arun Dravid, a senior exponent of the Jaipur Attrauli gharana has been an enterprenuer who has lived in the US for long. He studies classical vocal music under the great Moghubai Kurdikar and Kishori Amonkar. He has studied the idiom consciously applying his analytical mind and with a sense of devotion.

That devotion comes through his performance. He was featured by the 'Suburban Music Circle' last Sunday in an evening performance. We heard his 'Lalita Gauri', 'Tilak Kamod' and 'Raisa Kanada'.

Dravid sings with a broad 'aa' which is the main vowel used by the Jaipur Attrauli gharana singers. He has a fair degree of command of the raga elements as well as the fast tonal patterns like the taan.
