The santoor has established itself as a leading solo melodic instrument over the last five decades. There was a time when the maestro Shivkumar Sharma played the santoor at small gatherings in this city. Venues like Balmohan Vidya Mandir and Chhabildas Highschool with minimal amplification facilities were considered adequate for a santoor performance. In the 1980s the santoor began to acquire status and prestige thanks to the stature of Shivkumar Sharma. This inspired  many musicians of the new generation to take up the santoor. Young Satyehndra Singh Solanki is one such musician.

He hails from Bhopal. His father Ajay Singh Solanki is a reputed tabla player. Satyendra has learned the santoor from the late Omprakash Chaurasia who was a well known santoor player. Satyendra has also received talim from the famous Gundecha brothers who are  ace singers of the Dhrupad form.He was featured by 'Kalabharati' at a morning concert at Karnatak Sangha. Satyendra gave a sterling performance which was applauded enthusiastically by the audience. He played the raga 'Basant Mukhari' which is a combination of 'Bhairav' and 'Bhairavi'.The sombre mood of the raga was well depicted by the alap portion. The gats were set to teen taal. There was a lively interaction with the tabla player Tarun Lala .This brilliant tabla player is  a pupil of the veteran Arvind Mulgaonkar. Tarun is quite an accomplished tabla artiste.

The programme of Varshageet Ragdari hosted by 'Uttung Parivar' at Vile Parle E Ghaisas Hall attracted a full house.Various compositions from the genre of popular music based on such diverse ragas as 'Bilaskhani','Natbhairav','Tilak Shyam,' and 'Shivranjani' were picked up for demonstration purpose. The audience went into raptures as each composition was played. It was an engaging  combination of live and recorded music.
