A 45-year-old lady, animal activist by profession, has been attacked by a drug addict after she went to rescue a dog from his clutches. The accused molested the woman and assaulted her at NG Society in Thakur Complex.

Police sources said on Monday evening, Nidhi Singh's building watchman informed her that someone from outside was harassing a dog which belonged to the society. Nidhi came to the building premises and saw the youth hurting the dog.

When she asked him the reason for hitting the dog he started abusing her in front of the watchman, before slapping and pushing her. He told her to do whatever she wanted about the incident. The youth was identified as Gautam Lalji Chavan.

The watchman came to her rescue and caught hold of the youth. She informed the Samata Nagar police who arrested the youth and registered a FIR.

Samata Nagar police revealed that, the arrested youth has been booked under Sections 354 and 323 of the IPC and produced before  court, where he was released on bail.
