Mumbai police finally crack 12-year-old murder case

With the arrest of the two key accused and wanted for a murder case dating back to 2006, the Mumbai Police has sent out a loud and clear message to those who commit such crimes - commit crimes, but you will have to face the consequences and will eventually be brought to book as the men in khaki relentlessly continue to work on undetected cases.

Twelve years later, the cops managed to crack the case wherein a beheaded body was found (on 14/05/2006) with hands and legs chopped inside a plastic bag at Mastan Talao in Nagpada. Despite intense investigation by the city's cops, the case had to be closed as undetected.

Details of the unidentified headless male body were not disclosed and the probing agency registered a case against unidentified person under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the IPC at the JJ Marg Police Station.

Senior PI (Police Inspector) Sukhalal Varpe and PI Gulabrao More of MRA Marg police station received reliable information about the presence of two suspected persons and their involvement in the heinous crime, which was registered with JJ Marg police.

Murderers walk into crime; Trap then laid
The cops had been tipped off prior and acting under the leadership and guidance of DCP Zone 1 Manoj Kumar Sharma, Additional CP (South Region) Pravin Padwal and ACP Vijay Kadam (of Azad Maidan unit) three teams were formed and a trap was laid at Do Taki (Two Tanks Road) on Maulana Shaukat Ali Road. The duo- Firasat Ali Allarakha Shah (48) and Irshad Ali Allarakha Shah (43) were nabbed and taken for interrogation at MRA Marg Police Station.

After thoroughly investigating the pair, their complicity was established and another woman, Bansi Kharwa's name also cropped up. Kharwa, aged 60, was traced to Nagpada and her involvement in the murder also came to light.

Upon probing, it was realized that she had given a 'supari' (contractual killing) against her husband, Kisan Umarchand Kharwa, who she had bumped off owing to his habit of excessive drinking and harassment of family members.

Fed up of her husband's constant harassment, she gave a contract of Rs 2 lakhs to Firasat and Irshad . The trio were arrested previously this week (10 January) after Kharwa revealed the conspiracy.

The case is currently being investigated by the JJ Marg Police.

Firasat a past offender, FIR in Delhi too
It was later found out, during the course of investigation that Firasat had been previously arrested in a murder case registered at Rajouri Garden Police Station in New Delhi in 1996 and got bail in 2000. He was convicted on 31/05/2000 under Section 302 and sentenced to life imprisonment. His appeal was dismissed in May 2016 by the Honourable High Court of Delhi and was directed to surrender before the jail superintendent (at Tihar Central Jail) within four weeks. However, not only did the mentioned accused defy court orders, but he also absconded.

Owing to the combined and joint efforts of officials from JJ Marg, MRA Marg and Nagpada Police Station, the murder case of (the then unidentified) decapitated body was cracked after twelve years.

However the murder weapon and the head continues to remain missing, with the police unsure if the weapon can still be retrieved after these many years. However, Sharma feels that there is adequate circumstantial evidence to nail the trio and even the court will not let them free.

Bansi has four children and as per verified sources, obtaining her husband's assets (house), cash and procuring a few policies is a motive they (police) have established.
