University honours 2018 graduating batch

The University of Mumbai held a convocation ceremony for the medal holders of the graduating batch of 2018 yesterday, in the presence of the Chief Guest, eminent scientist and Nobel Laureate Sir Richard John Roberts.

A total number of 1,93,589 students graduated in the batch of 2018, for which the exams were held in April 2018. PhD and M Phil degrees numbering 332 were conferred, and 40 students were awarded 52 medals, for achieving proficiency in various exams (a total of 51 gold medals, and one was silver). The medals and certificates were conferred by the chief guest Sir Richard John Roberts.

This year's convocation included 24,282 students of the Department of Humanities, 7603 in the interdisciplinary sector, 1,06,724 in Commerce and Management branch and 54,980 in the Science and Technology branch. A total of 1,60,218 students were undergraduates, while 33,371 were postgraduate students.

The chief guest spoke to the students and audience about how since childhood he had a passion for solving puzzles, playing sports and taking a keen interest in mathematics and chemistry. He also spoke about the split genes for which he received the Nobel Prize in 1993 for his presentation.  

Reading the University Report, Vice Chancellor of the University, Suhas Pednekar, said, "University of Mumbai is committed to creating skilled manpower for nation building by providing quality education, creativity, research and innovation."
