The stinging defeat of sitting Shiv Sena MP Chandrakant Khaire from Aurangabad Lok Sabha constituency has sparked off a war of words with Maratha Kranti Mook Morcha activists attributing Khaires loss to Sena paying lip-service to their statewide reservation quota stir. The defeat of Khaire has already caused much bad blood between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Sena. Sources in the Sena disclosed that Khaire called on Sena president Uddhav Thackeray at latters Matoshri residence and held a close door meeting. Sources further disclosed that Khaire has been assured of his rehabilitation as a cabinet minister in the state cabinet if the BJP-Sena alliance returns to power in the assembly elections due later in September-October this year.

In the quadrangular contest in the Aurangabad, Khaire lost the election to MIMs Imtiaz Jaleel by a margin by 4,492 votes. The MKM in an anonymous post on social media alleged that the Sena had deviated from the ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and failed to espouse the cause of Maratha community. Khaire had accused state BJP president Raosaheb Danve of sabotage by fielding his son-in-law Harshawardhan Jadhav who though lost, polled more than 2.83 lakh votes that proved crucial in his loss. Besides Jadhav, the Congress candidate had polled 91,789 votes. State BJP general secretary, MLC Sujitsingh Thakur however had denied Khaires allegation of non-cooperation from the BJP. Danve too argued that he personally felt bad at Khaires loss.

Sources disclosed that in view of the ensuing Assembly elections, Khaire is most likely to be asked to contest the Assembly elections from Aurangabad and keep a check on the expanding support base of the MIM in the Marathwada region. Had Khaire won the Lok Sabha election, he was in the contention of at least becoming a minister of state in the union cabinet. Sources added that the names of Sena Lok Sabha MP from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg constituency Vinayak Raut and Mumbai South-Central Lok Sabha constituency Rahul Shewale and Rajya Sabha MP Anil Desai are under consideration of the Sena president for nominating them to the new NDA led union cabinet.

Meanwhile, reacting to the Congress president Rahul Gandhi offering to step down as party president at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting earlier yesterday, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Ashok Chavan rejected the Congress presidents offer to quit from his post. In a statement issued here, the MPCC president stated that the Congress president cannot be held responsible for the defeat of the Congress in the Lok Sabha polls. Stating that he too was willing to tender his resignation, Chavan added that the Congress president should be given free hand to constitute a new team. Former Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC) president Sanjay Nirupam too dismissed the Congress presidents offer to step down. Commenting upon the defeat suffered by other allies of the Congress, he wanted to know why no one is asking their party presidents to step down or neither have they offered to resign from their party posts.
