Uddhav springs to defend Bhide

Even as the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and several left leaning political parties have been lambasting the Bharatiya Janata Party, Shiv Sena-led state government for dragging its feet over their demand for arrest of Sambhaji Bhide for his alleged role in the Bhima-Koregaon incident of January 1 earlier this year, Sena president Uddhav Thackeray in an editorial in party mouthpiece 'Saamana' yesterday termed Bhide Guruji as modern day “Bajiprabhu Deshpande”. Showering praise on Bhide Guruji he argued that Bhide has spent all his life for the cause of Hindutva and eulogising Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Thackeray added that Bhide Guruji has reminded the youth that time will soon come upon them to take up swords.

The Sena chief stated that the Sena has deep respect for Bhide Guruji who has tirelessly worked for the cause of Hindutva. Thackeray stated that Bhide cannot stand the sight of anyone making loose comments about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj or  Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The Sena earlier had made light of Pune Police claims of unearthing a plot to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi by some urban Maoists.

However, the Sena yesterday in the editorial 'Bhide Guruji's Army', refers to the arrest of five-six Maoists. Thackeray remarks that these urban Maoists have been emboldened to try and procure firearms that can fire a lakh of rounds and for which Rs 7 to Rs 8 crore is being raised. Thackeray also harps on the special ties that Bhide has with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

It may be recalled that NCP president Sharad Pawar, Bharipa-Bahujan Mahasangh president Prakash Ambedkar and others have criticised the BJP-led government over its failure to arrest Bhide.
