The Kongaon Police in Bhiwandi on Monday (January 9) arrested two persons, who on Thursday (January 5) had snatched the hand bag of 22-year-old woman which contained valuables worth Rs 5.71 lakh.
According to police sources, the accused identified as Tariq Saiyyad (35) and Arman Quereshi (35) are residents of Millat Nagar in Bhiwandi. The victim identified as Preeti Vinod Gupta was on her way to the Kalyan station in an auto-rickshaw with her husband and father-in-law. However, when the auto slowed down at a speed breaker near Gove Toll Naka, the accused duo who were on a motorbike allegedly snatched her hand bag.
“The accused duo have been booked under sections 394, 337, 336 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. After the incident we analysed the CCTV footage of the Gove Toll Naka and based on the frequent movement of vehicles we zeroed in on Tariq and Arman's motorbike, following which they we arrested from their residences,” said Pawan Nandre, Police Sub Inspector from Kongaon Police Station, “ The accused duo were produced before the court and have been remanded in to police custody till January 13,” he added.
