Thunderstorm kills two and injures six

Two people died and six were injured when a massive tree fell down during the thundesrtorm and heavy downpour that took place in Bhiwandi on Monday evening.

The police said the incident took place at Narpoli petrol pump in Bhiwandi. "We got to know from a passerby after which we rushed to the spot and informed the fire officials to come and rescue those who were trapped,” said police officials from Narpoli Police Station.

According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Imran Ansari (28) and Lallan Yadav (54) both of whom were standing at a two-wheeler mechanic's shop near the petrol pump on the Bhiwandi-Thane road when the tree came down. Others who got away with their lives but were injured have been identified as Laxmikant (25), Vishal Gautam (18), Muktkim Khan (18), Ahmed Husain (16), Shamsuddin Ansari (18) and Farooq Shaikh (16). As per the officials, they suffered head, leg, chest and hand injuries. They were admitted into Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and two of them were discharged after some first aid care.
