Thief snatches cash from customer at bank, runs, gets arrested

The Chembur police has arrested a robber red-handed with the help of a bank's security guard who had snatched money from the hands of a customer who was inside a bank in Chembur on Tuesday.

The Chembur police officials who were on patrol duty, noticed that the security guard of Bharat Co-operative Bank of the Ambedkar Garden Branch at Chembur along with another person were shouting and running behind another person. The cops chased them on the streets for a kilometre before they caught and arrested him.

Manoj Patil, Sub-Inspector of Chembur police station said, “The accused identified as Firoz Sarvar Sayeed (52) resident of Ambivali's Kalyan and is considered as a habitual offender with many cases registered against him at various police stations and the complainant Amar Prashad (19) he is a student and lives in Tilak Nagar at Chembur.”

Santosh Kamble, Assistant police inspector of Chembur police station, “The incident took place when Amar went into the bank to withdraw money, when Amar was counting money inside the bank, then Feroz snatched the money and ran away with money. The bank's security guard and Amar started running behind Firoz, police on the patrol duty were on spot and followed Firoz and caught after a chase for a kilometer.”

Jayprakash Bhosale, Senior Police Inspector of Chembur police station, said, “We have immediately registered a First Information Report (FIR) under section 392 (Punishment for robbery) in the Indian Penal Code, and also recovered the stolen cash Rs 4,000 from him. The accused will be produced before the court and remanded to police custody until May 17. Investigations are underway in this case.”
