The Thane Anti Extortion Cell on Wednesday applied the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against five accused namely, Chhota Shakeel, Iqbal Kaskar, Mumtaz Shaikh, Israr Sayyed and Pankaj Gangar booked in connection with an Extortion case.

Within this aforesaid extortion case, there are three other cases that have been registered against fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim's brother Iqbal Kaskar and and his other accomplices. N T Kadam, ACP from Thane Anti Extortion Cell said, "We have Iqbal Kaskar in custody till October 14. As per the directions of the court, after the application of the MCOCA, we will have have him in custody for a few more days after October 14.”

“While Chhota Shakeel is still wanted, Kaskar who was deported from the United Arab Emirates in 2003, is said to be operating his brother Dawood’s real estate business in the city,” the police stated.

According to Police officials, “We booked cases against Iqbal Kaskar a few days ago in a money laundering case. Later, we informed the ED as to how they got the money (which was extorted) from several builders and jewelers.

“We applied MCOCA so as to get the benefit of having them in custody for a few more days, so that we could interrogate them in a much more efficient manner and after this interrogation comes to an end, we shall build a very strong case against them,” concluded N T Kadam.
