Chemo facilities at district level

In order to ease the pressure on Tata Cancer Hospital, Parel, the State Government will make efforts to speed up the process of setting up a sub-center of the Tata Cancer Hospital at Thane. Disclosing this to newspersons at Mantralaya, Minister for Public Health Eknath Shinde added that the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is ready to allocate land for the same. Referring to the increase in cancer cases being detected he said that plans are afoot to provide free of cost chemotherapy at district level to rural population and facilities shall be upgraded. Shinde further said that in order to further improve medical facilities to rural power, the government will soon make recruitment for about 10,000 vacant posts of doctors, nurses, para-medical staff and other category of health services.

Shinde said that considering the long waiting list for dialysis, CT scan and chemotherapy facilities, the Government will soon create independent machinery at the district level whereby affordable health care facilities can be provided to the rural population. He further disclosed that TMC has installed 100 dialysis machines at building constructed by it in Thane.

He added that the medical services at rural Public Health Centers (PCH) and sub-centers will be upgraded and strengthened whereby the pressures on the district level hospitals will be reduced.

Replying to queries over doctors being reluctant to do service in rural PHCs and sub-centers, Shinde stated that the government is considering providing additional incentives like ex-gratia payments to doctors whereby they are encouraged to provide better health care facilities to the rural population in remote and hilly areas.

Commenting upon the Central Government's Employment State Insurance Scheme (ESIS) Hospitals in the state, he said that henceforth the chairmanship of the governing council shall be held by the state Chief Secretary. Shinde added that the Rs 1,600 crore allocation from the Center shall be used to upgrade facilities at the ESIS hospitals.
