In a city that skips on quality of life because of huge kickbacks and the need for massive bribery, here is a man that is not shying away from exposing his truth and declaring to bring the corrupt to their knees. In an interaction with the press, Mumbai Social Worker Sandeep Yeole spoke of a bribe and displayed cash of Rs 14 Lakhs for all to see. He alleged that the cash was a bribe from a developer to cover up a huge Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) Scheme and that he plans to take down all the involved by approaching the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Mumbai Police Commissioner and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, amongst others. In a counter statement, the Developers involved state that the cash was a legitimate amount given to the activist for work on the SRA projects. They site that the expose and his mission to bring them down and expose the corruption is a twisted tale replete with ulterior motives. In this David versus Goliath story, it will be interesting to see who finally comes out clean. In either case, accountability and action must prevail.

Activist who exposed SRA developer to activate action

After exposing SRA Developer Omkar Realtors for allegedly paying him a bribe of Rs. 40 lakh in cash, the activist will be approaching various investigating agencies with proof and evidence against the developer

Three days after social worker Sandeep Yeole exposed a high-profile developer for allegedly offering him Rs. 11 crore to keep silent on alleged violations in the developer's project at Hanuman Nagar in Parksite Vikhroli, Yeole is all set to approach various investigating agencies with a complaint on the alleged bribe offered.

Yeole had conducted a press conference on Wednesday wherein he stated that he was offered and paid a bribe by Omkar Realtors so that he doesn't pursue the alleged scam in Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme in Vikhroli. The activist had brought a bundle of fresh notes and presented it in front of the media claiming it was Rs 40 lakh in cash.

During the conference, Yeole had said he did a sting operation on the builder and had proof to book the builder. “I have been pursuing the matter for quite a long time and gathered all information regarding the SRA scheme. There is a scam in the Parksite SRA project being carried out by the developer.”

Yeole has now decided to approach various investigating agencies including the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Enforcement Directorate (ED), Registrars of Companies (ROC), Mumbai Police Commissioner, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis alleging criminal angle into the entire act of the developer.

Speaking to the Afternoon D&C, Yeole said, “This developer is a very strongly connected with politicians and bigwigs in various government offices. I had been pursuing the scam in this SRA's Vikhroli project and so I was given this bribe to remain silent on the alleged violations that I had found out. However now, I have decided to approach the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Enforcement Directorate (ED), Registrars of Companies (ROC), Mumbai Police Commissioner, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. There is a criminal angle in this entire act of the developer. I am preparing all documents and evidences regarding the same and will present it before these investigating agencies by early next week.”

While sources said that there are alleged violations by the developer in other SRA projects, Omkar Realtors, in a statement issued, said, “Omkar Realtors would like to emphatically state that an amount of Rs 40 lakhs was paid to Sandeep Yeole, a local activist, in regards to the redevelopment project at Parksite, Vikhroli  as advance rental disbursal amount for 88 slum tenants.  In SRA projects, a small faction of slum tenants are paid out their rental advances in cash whereby they don’t have bank accounts. The said amount, which is completely accounted for, was paid as advance rents for 88 slum tenants who planned to shift immediately during the monsoon. Yeole had been opposing and misleading some of the constituents on the false prospect of the project being redeveloped under Self Redevelopment. The defamatory attempt by Yeole to present completely twisted facts to the media is purely a matter of pressure tactic for ulterior motives and  his failure to influence the overall slum community from  going in for Self Redevelopment.”
