Five stations of the Western Railway are all set to go digital. All payments at Churchgate, Mahalaxmi, Dadar, Elphinstone Road and Borivali can now be made digitally.

These digital payments including ticket purchase, smart card refill, eatables, water and parking facilities can be paid though electronic money. The pay and use washroom facility have not yet been added on the list.

These five stations were chosen to be among the first because of their popularity and the high footfall received. After observing the success rate at these five stations, other stations of the Western Railway will also go digital.

A Western Railway official said, "The Railway Ministry is keen on implementing digital mode of payment through out the entire Indian Railway.
Commuters are being encouraged to go cashless which is the sole motive of going digital. Work on other stations going digital is also ongoing."

The Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu last year had announced the plan of the Indian Railways going completely digital.
