The Happy Home and School for the Blind, established in 1925 with five blind street waifs, has risen from a modest beginning in the BDD Chawls to a full-fledged school from Montessori to SSC level, for 200 visually impaired children.

Although these children cannot 'see', with their highly developed sense of feel and touch they are able to express themselves in different ways. A visit to the school will leave you with the feeling that it is a 'happening' place, buzzing with activity.

Apart from academics, these children find self-expression in different activities, ranging from music and drama to pottery, ceramics and mosaic, carpentry, weaving and card making, gymnastics and sport. These activities instill in them a sense of confidence and self-worth, enabling them to face the future as confident and contributing members of society.

It is the only high school for the visually impaired in Maharashtra.
