Police return recovered loot worth over Rs 3 cr to victims

Giving more than a hundreds complainants a reason to smile, the North Region of city police on Tuesday returned all the stolen goods they had recovered to their rightful owners. The officials of North Region having more than 20 police stations under their jurisdiction took around 18 months to recover all the stolen booty from the various accused.

Articles worth Rs 3.41 crore – including six kgs of gold jewelry, 25 lakhs in cash, silver items, mobile phones, vehicles and one laptops – were returned to their owners. Around 43 complainants attended the function which was held at the Shyamwadi Hall in Dindoshi. Additional Commissioner of Police (North Region) Rajesh Pradhan said ''We have arrested more than 100 persons in connection with these thefts. They have also provided valuable information about their counterparts in other districts. We have returned articles belonging to 43 persons who lodged an FIR, as per directions of the court.Senior citizen Laxman Dhingra (80), who was targeted by fake police and lost his bracelet said ''I am very happy and thankful to Mumbai police. I had lost all hope of getting back my stolen property but got it after one year.''

While another woman Sugandha Maadiye said ''Chain-snatchers had targeted me when I was walking on the road and I lost my Mangasutra. But I was delighted when I got a call from the local police informing me that my Mangasutra was recovered from the robber and they are going to give it back.''

Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone 12, Vinay Rathod said ''Our officers have slogged day and night to crack these cases. We are trying to crack more cases and will return the goods once they are recovered.''
