Since there will be high tide on 3 days during the festival, cops do not want any untoward incident to occur

Keeping in mind the upcoming Eid festival, when thousands of Muslims gather at the Haji Ali dargah to pray and also roam in the area for three days, the Mumbai Police has issued an advisory for people to stay away from the dargah as high tide is expected on those three days.

According to Tardeo Police sources, under whose precinct the Haji Ali dargah falls, the Indian Meteorological Department issued an advisory to Mumbaikars to avoid going towards the sea, sitting on the tetrapods or on the promenades facing the sea. But on June 16,  Eid festival will be celebrated whichwill continue till June 18, and on these three days a large number of Muslims will gather in the area, hence we have issued an advisory to deter people from visiting the Haji Ali dargah.

Heavy police security will be deployed inside and outside the dargah to tackle any untoward incident during the Eid festival as a large number of men, women, children and senior citizens will be visiting the dargah. People will not be allowed to crowd on the road outside the dargah as it would create major traffic problems, sources said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Tardeo division, Nagesh Jadhav said, “We are not going to close the dargah for darshan but during high tide we will stop people from going to the dargah and will not allow them to crowd outside on the road as it could create traffic problems. On every Eid festival thousands of people visit the dargah, but during high tide if any untoward incident takes place, who can be held responsible. “People should avoid coming to Haji Ali dargah between 13.00 to 15.30 hours on 16-6-2018, 13.30 to 16.00 hours on 17-6-2018, 14.30 to 17.00 hours on 18-6-2018 and 15.30 to 18.00 hours on 19-6-2018, states the advisory issued by the IMD. We have requested people to visit other dargahs during the festival and come later to Haji Ali dargah, just for safety reasons.”
