Sheena Bora murder trial

Indrani had made a prayer before court to permit her to take the test if the CBI wishes to conduct one

Former Star India CEO Peter Mukerjea has opposed his wife Indrani Mukerjea's application before the CBI special court to permit her to undergo a polygraph or lie detector test.

Representing Peter, his advocate Amit Ghag informed court that they would be objecting the application. “I (Peter) am a co-accused in the case. The trial is in progress. At this stage such an application should not be entertained,” he told court, regarding his objection to it.

Last month, Indrani had made an application seeking permission to undergo a polygraph test in which she said that she now consents to undergo it. In 2015, when the CBI which was yet to file the chargesheet in the case, had sought to conduct the test on her, she had refused consent to undergo it. Explaining this to court in her application, she had said that she did so because she had been under 'tremendous pressure' not to undergo it and had succumbed to the pressure as she was 'in a state of shock, was mentally disturbed, vulnerable and physically unwell.'

She had said further that she thinks that 'it is only right and proper in the name of justice that she undergo the Polygraph test.'

The CBI, the prosecuting agency in the case, on its part, had opposed the plea too, on the grounds that they did not need the test anymore since they have sufficient evidence against her. They had also pointed out that the test was not legally admissible and hence had no evidential value. The court will be hearing arguments on the matter coming Monday.
