Pedestrian dies after being hit by TMT bus

A 24-year-old pedestrian died after being hit by a Thane Municipal Transport (TMT) bus on the Station Area Traffic Improvement Scheme (SATIS) bridge in Thane on Saturday morning.

The police said the deceased has been identified as Vaibhav Laxman Tankar. He used to work as a plumber in the same area. The accused has been identified as Vaibhav Deepak Ghag, (30), who is the driver of the aforesaid TMT bus.

According to the police constable Shivankar Sonkar, "The victim was walking from the station towards the  Dada Patil Wadi when the TMT bus was driving at full speed and dashed him from behind. He collapsed on the road and suffered deep abdomen and leg injuries. The driver took him to the civil hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival."

The Noupada Police has booked a case against the driver under section 279, 337, 338 and 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act.

The police said the driver was arrested and produced in the court from where he has been placed into police custody.
