Three ISIS suspects were detained, one was arrested from Mumbai's adjoining district Thane, in what was a joint operation performed with the coordination of six state police units including Maharashtra and UP, Delhi Police, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh units. The module according to sources is connected to the one recently busted in UP. Police suspect that these operatives had panned out to different states and may have been carrying out reconnaissance in various capacities for an upcoming strike. Nine team played vital roles working in tandem to arrest the youth, with the Delhi police network helping to crack the network.
According to ATS sources, as per the request and information provided by ATS Uttar Pradesh, a joint operation was planned early morning on and executed by Maharashtra ATS in Mumbra along with officers of ATS UP, Special Cell Delhi and CI Cell Andhra Pradesh.
During the operation carried out by officials in Mumbra, they arrested Umar alias Nazim Shamshad Ahmed (26), of Bijnor (UP) who has been arrested by UP ATS. The arrested person along with other co-accused from different parts of the country, proposed to cause harm to national integrity and social harmony.
Two more suspects are being questioned for their involvement and will be released after thorough interrogation. All the three were residing in a one room apartment since the past few months. During house search cash, mobile phone and other equipment was seized, ATS sources added.
An offense under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code IPC including 120 (b)-Planning was registered and the investigation is going on. All the arrested persons who were detained are very religious, sources added.
One one day, UP ATS along with six state police officials raided six different places and made four arrest while six were detained. Umar alias Nazim Shamshad Ahmed is the only one from Mumbai while remaining three Gaazi Baba alias Muzammil alias Zeeshan—hailed from Punjab, Mufti alias Faizan—hailed from Bijnor (UP) and Zakwan alias Ehtasham alias SK alias Mintu, was picked up from Bihar.
