As many as 20 eunuchs and transsexuals from the Vasai-Virar region, filled application forms for inclusion of their names as ‘Others’ in the electoral roll of the assembly segment, at a special camp held here on Friday.  So far, the eunuchs were registered in the electoral rolls either as male or female, on the basis of the statement made by the person concerned.

“We are as much a citizen as any other person residing in this state. We have a right to be treated at par with other citizens and be given a chance to elect candidates during elections,” said Anwari Shaikh.

A team led by Revenue Officer Pradeep Mukne, organized the camp for registering eunuchs and transsexuals, so as to issue them photo identity cards.
