A 34-year-old Nigerian national has been arrested by the Samta Nagar police who used to insert a skimming machine and a micro camera in a Kandivali based ATM booth in order to get access to the personal banking data of the users and withdraw money from their accounts without the knowledge of the users. The accused identified as Isaahi Seyi was arrested during the night intervening Monday and Tuesday and based on his confession, the police later arrested his other female accomplice Kharad Mogi (37) for her role in the crime.

According to the police, a 22-year-old man, Harshad Chavda had approached a bank informing them about the presence of skimmer and micro camera inside a Yes Bank ATM booth in Kurar village area of Malad east.

The bank later approached the police who then registered an FIR in the matter and formed 4 teams to nab the accused who had set up the cloning devices into the ATM machines.

“Officers from the detection team came to the said ATM spot and two officers disguised as security guards outside the ATM started keeping a watch. At around 2 am, a man entered the booth with a card to swipe but later he found something fishy so he kept the card inside the bag and started walking away.

Looking at some men following him, he started running and later he got into an autorickshaw. The man then jumped off the running auto and tried to get away but we managed to catch hold of him.

The accused identified himself and from his bag, we found a skimming machine, micro camera and a cloning card. Seyi was staying at Nalasopara along with Mogi and 2 mobile phones and 3 fake debit cards have also been recovered,” said senior police inspector of Samta Nagar police station, Raju Kasbe.

The accused duo have been booked under section 465, 420 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code and section 43 (a), (b), (h) and 66 of the Information Technology Act.
