Cruise likely to start services from March 1

The Mumbai Port Trust of India (MbPT) may start the Mumbai-Goa cruise service from March 1, after missing the December deadline last year. The port trust officials claimed that the services have been put on hold as the ship is under refurbishment. In a first, the cruise will boast a one of a kind Indian touch with a Bollywood dance floor on the entertainment deck.

According to  MbPT sources, as the ship has come from Japan, a lot of changes are being made on the vessel. Apart from the special Bollywood style dance floor and a disco for the commuters, the cruise will have a swimming pool. “An entire Indian and Bollywood touch will be given to the ship. There will be a lot of Indian artwork added to ship. Further, the ship will also have a swimming pool,” said Gautam Dey, Senior Deputy Traffic Manager, Business Development, MbPT.

The cruise will sail overnight, with a travel time of 16 hours from Mumbai to Goa. The cruise liner will sail from the domestic cruise terminal at Mazgaon in Mumbai. Further, it will stop at Dighi in Raigad, Dabhol and Jaigad in Ratnagiri District, Vijay Durg, Malvan and will wind up at Panjim as the last stop. The cruise will be operating all year round, except for the four months during monsoons.

It will cost Rs. 5,000 per night, which is costlier than the airfare from Mumbai to Goa. MbPT officials claimed that the cruise will be treated as a luxury and leisure mean of travel and not as just a mode of transport. However, the revenue of the cruise is not yet estimated entirely, claimed MbPT officials. Other than that, the officials said that the cruise is named 'Angreia', which is related to the term 'Angrez'.

Commuters looking for a luxurious journey from Mumbai to Goa may not have to wait for long as the cruise will become operational from March 1. “We have received a nod from all the other departments for the cruise to be operational. However, some refurbishment of the ship is remaining. Once that is done, we will start the cruise operations. For now, we are keeping March 1 as the date to tentatively start the services of the cruise,” claimed Dey.
