The Mumbai University and College Teachers’ Association (MUCTA) has accused Registrar Dr. Dinesh Kamble of tampering with papers related to election to be held for electing one member from senate to the management council, the highest body of the university, slated to be held on July 21, 2018.

Vaibhav Narvade, President of the MUCTA, in the letters to Governor, C Vidyasagar Rao, Minister for Higher Education, Vinod Tawde, and Mumbai University Vice Chancellor, Dr Suhas Pednekar, has demanded action against the Registrar, Dr Kamble, alleging that he tampered with nomination papers and even approved incomplete nomination form, in the scrutiny that was held on Wednesday.

Besides, no voters’ list was declared in time, as per Section 8 of the University Act. As such an inquiry should be held into the entire episode and incomplete nomination forms should be rejected, Narvade demanded in his letter. The voters’ list has to be published 45 days in advance.

The senate members, Narvade and Chandrashekhar Kulkarni (BUCTU) had submitted nominations for two seats belonging to the teachers segment. Kulkarni has stated to have filed forms, but all of them were incomplete and his affidavit was also incomplete. As such, scrutiny committee rejected his nomination.

However, Dr Kamble in his capacity as a Returning Officer, pressurised the scrutiny committee, himself overwrote on the forms and got the rejected nominations approved, Narvade alleged and added that when he complained Dr Kamble tried to silence him.

Eight nominees are sent to the management council who include two each of Prncipals’ group, graduates’ segment, teachers’ bodies and college managements. Of these, this year, except teachers’ bodies, candidates belonging to three other categories, have already been elected unopposed. As such the election has to be held for only teachers’ category.

The election has to be held on July 21, 2018. The tenure of the management council will be till 2022.
