A special court designated for sexual crimes on children on Wednesday sentenced a man to ten years in jail for repeatedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old child who had run away from a children's home she was living in, as she did not like studies.

The girl told court that she was at a railway station bridge after running away from school, when a man who introduced himself as Dhaneshkumar Kanojiya, whom she described as physically disabled, approached her and offered to take her home. She said she had gone with him, but instead of taking her home, he had taken her to an empty train bogie and sexually assaulted her. When she had tried to shout for help, he had strangled her neck with her dupatta and threatened to kill her if she disclosed about the assault to anyone.

The girl told court further that over the next few days, Kanojiya had taken her to the homes of two women, where too she had been sexually assaulted when no one was at home. The assault also happened, she testified, repeatedly under the Khar railway station bridge. Thereafter, she told court, that the man had taken her to his uncle's home, where his uncle too had sexually assaulted her.

She deposed that it is when she had been taken to a market by Kanojiya to get her footwear repaired, that some girls from the children's home had seen her, upon which Kanojiya had fled. The inmates had taken her back with them and then a police complaint was lodged. Meanwhile, the children's home had lodged a missing persons complaint with the police when the girl had not returned from school.

Special Public Prosecutor Geeta Sharma said that the Superintendent of the children's home had deposed in court. She had told court that the girl had run from the home a year before the incident too. The police were unable get to the uncle of Kanojiya who had also sexually assaulted the child.
