Jolt for NCP as MLA Kshirsagar quits on poll counting eve

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) yesterday got a major jolt when former Minister and party MLA from Beed, Jaydutta Kshirsagar joined the Shiv Sena. Sena president Uddhav Thackeray welcomed him in the party fold by tie-up Shivbandhan on his wrist.

Kshirsagar was a cabinet minister in the previous Congress-NCP government. He was upset with growing clout of leader of the opposition in State council Dhananjay Munde within the NCP and his nephew Sandip Kshirsagar. For past one year, Kshirsagar was virtually marginalised in the party. Finally, he took the decision to quit the party.

Sulking since a while, Kshirsagar was reportedly engaged in talks with the BJP, but early on Wednesday he finally announced his intentions to quit the Sharad Pawar-led NCP and join the Shiv Sena. In recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, he had openly campaigned for the BJP candidate, Pritam Munde against the NCP's nominee Bajrang Sonavane, to take the revenge of political rivalry.

In April, a miffed Kshirsagar held a secret meeting with Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray at his residence Matoshree. However, he denied any talks regarding him joining the party and claimed that it was a courtesy visit to wish Thackeray a happy new year.

Kshirsagar, who has been at loggerheads with senior party leaders, yesterday morning went to Vidhan  Bhavan and submit his resignation from MLA post. In the evening he officially join Sena in the presence of Uddhav Thackeray.
