Jeep driver's body found in Barvi Dam jungles, face burnt with acid

A 42-year old jeep driver died after unidentified persons threw acid on him at Murbad. The attacker then dumped his body in the Barvi Dam jungles, while his jeep was left at Kalyan Taluka. The police said they are on the lookout for the accused and are probing the matter.

The deceased was identified as Madhukar Umane, a resident of Manevli village in Murbad Taluka. On November 8, he took a passenger from Manevli towards Badlapur. However, the did not return home after dropping off the passenger. His family kept trying to call him but got no response. On the morning of November 9, the family approached the local police station and filed a missing complaint.

Police sources said the jeep was recovered from Vasind village in Kalyan Taluka. According to police constable S. K. Patil, "On November 11, we got to know about a dead body lying near the Barvi Dam jungles from a passerby. Thereafter we reached the spot and saw his face was burned with acid. Later he was identified with the help of his family members. His body has been sent to the government hospital where a post mortem was conducted."

The Murbad police booked a case against unknown persons under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
