The state government decided to impart training in share market trading to backward class youth under its skill development program, on the occasion of the 61st death anniversary (Mahaparinirvan Din) of Dr. B R Ambedkar, yesterday.

In a special meeting organised at Mantralaya, Minister for Social Justice and Special Assistance, Rajkumar Badole directed the Maharashtra Skill Development department and Bombay Stock Exchange to prepare different courses related to share market trading so that the backward class youth could be trained, empowered and made self-dependent.

''It is essential that the youth are given training related to mutual funds, share broking and other activities so that they can earn independently instead of hunting for jobs. While city dwellers can get the training in Mumbai, similar courses should be prepared at district level so that rural youth can receive the training,'' Badole said and added that his department would extend all required help implement this programme.

BSE President Ashish Chauhan, Social justice secretary Dinesh Waghmare, Joint Secretary Dingle and officers of different state government corporations were present.

On the occasion of “Mahaparinirvan Din”, the Social Justice Department also distributed over 11,000 booklets containing information about various welfare schemes being implemented for those belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes, at Shivaji Park.

In the meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who visited Chaityabhoomi (Ambedkar memorial) at Shivaji Park along with Governor, Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, to pay respects to Dr. Ambedkar, told reporters that the work of the Ambedkar memorial at Indu Mill will begin within one month and added that the tender has already been floated and the work would start after completion of formalities. Besides, Deeksha Bhoomi in Nagpur and Chaityabhoomi will be accorded the status of tourism centre, along with existing pilgrim centres. A scheme to set up 50 hostels for backward class girl students is under process, Fadnavis said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation of the memorial on October 11, 2015. The 12.5 acres of land of the erstwhile India United Mills (Indu) belonging to the National Textiles Corporation (NTC), had been transferred to the state government on March 25, 2017.

MMRDA had floated tenders on ‘Design - Build basis' on April 14, 2017 but only single bidder…”Shapoorji Pallonji” submitted the bid. As such the tenders were re-invited. But again on November 23, 2017, it was noticed that Shapoorji Pallonji was the sole bidder. Now the work is expected to be awarded to this firm. The cost of the project is approx. Rs. 600 crores, which is expected to be completed within three years after award of work to the Contractor.

The Ambedkar memorial has been planned on over 5.23 lakh square feet area. A 25,000 sq. ft stupa will be its main attraction. There will be a bronze canopy on the stupa and after sunset, a light at the tip of the stupa will give the entire structure a golden hue. The conceptual design presented by M/s. Shashi Prabhu and Associates and Design Associates Inc. has been selected.

In another development, the Dadar railway station was “renamed” by “Bhim Army” as “Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Terminus, as a protest against the Government’s “failure” to rename the Dadar railway station after Ambedkar, despite its demand yesterday. The Chaityabhoomi is located at Shivaji Park in Dadar West and the Ambedkar Bhavan, the central point for Dalit agitations, is located at Dadar East. Besides, Ambedkar’s residence “Rajgrija” is also in Dadar East (Hindu Colony). As such, the Ambedkarites have been demanding to rename Dadar station after Ambedkar since long.
