Sleuths of the Thane (rural) police are on the lookout of two unidentified men, who hired a cab posing as passengers from Kashimirat to Taloja near Navi Mumbai, threatened the driver at gunpoint and robbed him of his cash and mobile phone before fleeing with the car when they were about to reach their destination.

Following a complaint registered by the cab driver identified as Nasir Ahmed (31), a case under IPC Section 392 was registered at the Kashimira police station against the unidentified miscreants on Monday evening.

The two men in an inebriated state, hired the cab – a Renault Lodgy car – from Kashimira to Taloja. While one of them boarded the cab, the other followed on a bike. In his statement to the police, Nasir said that after crossing the toll plaza, the biker drove ahead and parked his bike before getting into the car.

As the car neared Taloja village, the duo, said to be in their mid 3o's, threatened Nasir with a revolver to snatch his mobile phones and wallet containing Rs 2,800 before pushing him out and driving away with the vehicle towards the direction of Panvel.

After running from pillar-to-post to file a police complaint, the traumatised driver finally managed to get a FIR registered at the Kashimira police station. “Investigations were underway into the case and we will crack it soon,” confirmed Senior Police Inspector Vaibhav Shingare.

Last month, a 36-year-old serviceman from Thane was robbed of cash and valuables amounting Rs 25,000 by four men including a cabbie who offered a lift in Kashimira.
