Dr Basant Kumar Misra, Head of the Department of Surgery & Head of Neurosurgery & Gamma Knife Radiosurgery at P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre, will be honoured with the Dr B.C. Roy National Award in the most prestigious category of 'Eminent Medical Person' of the year – the highest award in the field of medicine in India. Dr Misra will receive the award from the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind.

The Dr B.C. Roy National Award was instituted in 1962 by the Medical Council of India, in honour of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy – an eminent Indian physician, educationist, philanthropist and freedom fighter. He is one of the few people in history to have obtained F.R.C.S. and M.R.C.P. degrees simultaneously. In India, the National Doctors' Day is celebrated in his memory on July 1 every year.

On being selected to receive the highest medical honour of the nation, Dr B.K. Misra said, “I am very pleased, honoured and humbled to accept this award. A very special thanks to the board for selecting me in this category. I am blessed to be working in an environment that supports and inspires me and I would like to thank the entire team of P.D. Hinduja Hospital for their support.”
