Dance bars violating SC norms under police radar

The city police always keeps close tab on illegal activities at the illegal dance bars, but City Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve has went step ahead and asked the Anti Narcotic Cell (ANC) Chief DCP Shivdeep Lande to conduct raids on dance bar in the city who are seen violating the Supreme Court order.

According to police sources, after the major raids were conduct by the DCP Shivdeep Lande at different locations in the city, top brass of the police department praised his work and based on this, the police commissioner has asked him to conduct raids in bars and in hukka parlours as well if they are found violating the norms.

DCP Shivdeep Lande and his team came to light when they conducted raids at the Indiana Restaurant and Bar near Haji Ali on March 23 and around 47 accused were caught while eight bar girls were rescued who were getting intimidated by the accused and were allegedly making obscene gestures. In this case, the Magistrate Court issued an order to the accused to donate Rs 3,000 each to an orphanage in Badlapur to get bail.

Later, DCP Lande conducted raid in Saroj Bar in MIDC where 15 accused have been arrested including four bar girl and in this case, police officer were also suspended, while on April 27, another raid was conducted Golden Goose Bar in Gaondevi where 51 people were arrested including eight bar girls while Rs 90,000 cash were seized.

In this case, Senior Police Inspector (SPI) Gokulsing Patil was suspended after he released all the accused from police station without producing them before the court.

While on May 12, Metro bar in Oshiwara was raided by DCP and his team and a total of 35 people including 25 customers, 8 staff and two managers were arrested, while the girls managed to flee from this bar through the eight gates and a secret cavity. On May 14, discovery bar on LBS Marg was raided wherein 19 people and eight bar girls were arrested and cash worth around Rs 90000 were recovered from the spot. 

Green Park Bar in Tardeo was raided on May 25 and 11 accused were arrested including four bar girls while Rs 34000 were also seized.

Sources further revealed that, singing on dance floor is not allowed, women can serve food only and cannot dance and should not indulge in obscenity. The bar owner should not cross the time limit and everyone has to follow the Supreme Court Guidelines – these are some of the instructions given to all senior police officers of the Mumbai Police.
