The State Government has decided to conduct a detailed probe into alleged irregularities in the construction of residential buildings by Larsen & Toubro in the Powai area.

Shiv Sena MLA Sunil Prabhu, yesterday raised this issue in the Assembly through a calling attention notice. He demanded a thorough inquiry into this matter. Ashish Shelar (BJP), while speaking on this issue alleged that the company had not taken necessary permissions from the Municipal Corporation, and it ignored the district collector's order to stop the construction.

The member also alleged that the land on which these high-rise buildings came up had allegedly been given to the company for industrial purposes.

The Minister of State for Home and Urban Development Ranjit Patil replied to the queries of members. He said, “An inquiry will be conducted into alleged irregularity in the construction of residential buildings by Larsen & Toubro in Powai area,” he said. “Larsen and Toubro was given land near Paspoli in the Powai vicinity in the suburbs, where the company allegedly constructed ten 24-storey towers, resulting in misappropriation of Rs 400 crores. The company has violated the Urban Land Ceiling Act and the Development Control Rules,” he added further.
