The Byculla police are looking for a trio who allegedly cheated many people over a period of six years by selling them shops in a building that they were allegedly going to construct in South Mumbai.

According to the Byculla police, the three men had lured buyers by promising them shop plots with no interest on the loan and low EMIs through the Jagrut Ekta Samaj Federation Trust, between 2011-2017.

The police officers said that a complainant, identified as 53-year-old Shakil Ali Ruwaal, who is a resident of Byculla, approached the police claiming that three men had cheated him and others.

In his complaint, Ruwaal claimed that the three men had taken Rs. 2.93 lakhs from him as a token amount for the booking of a plot in Hussaina Mansion, located at St. Mary Road in Mazgaon on March 15, 2011 and promised him possession within three years. “The complainant has said in his statement that the accused had promised him a shop within three years after the construction was complete. However, till November 2017, they had failed to give the possession of the property,” said a police officer from the Byculla police station.

The police officers further said that when the victim asked for his booking amount to be returned, as they had failed to failed to fulfill their promise, they denied him the amount. He then filed a case of cheating against the three.

“We are now tracing the trio as we have found out that they have allegedly cheated many others like this, duping them of the amount of Rs. 15.79 lakhs,” said the officer. We have booked them on charges of cheating under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code.
