Civic body reclaims encroached road after nine years
The R.T.O. route at Andheri (west) which was encroached for the past nine years was finally reclaimed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday. Due to the encroachments, the 60 ft road was reduced to only 15 ft at various spots and used to cause severe traffic snarls during peak hours. However, the civic body has finally taken action and cleared a total of 45 unauthorised settlements.
The road which is near D.N Nagar metro station was occupied by unauthorised settlements since 2009. Approximately 75 percent of the road was encroached upon leading to a space crunch for pedestrians and traffic congestion.
According to the civic body, prior notice was sent by the BMC officials to the encroachers which they didn't adhere to and hence BMC took a final call on Sunday and demolished all the illegal hutments. A total of 40 BMC workers and 24 police officials assisted in the demolition drive.
