Kenyan Airlines crew gave the slip to AIU officials, but were caught by hotel staffers with huge amount of gold; Mumbai Police felicitates staffers

Most of the times officials of Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) are in the news for taking action against gold smugglers but on this occasion,  officials of AIU were given the slip by Kenyan Airlines officials but  the Mumbai Police with the help of three five-star hotel security guard employees, exposed this huge gold smuggling racket.

According to Police sources, two Kenyan Airlines officials were residing in the five-star hotel from Sunday, but security guard of hotel got suspicious about their baggage and immediately informed the Sahar police. After police reached  the spot, they were shocked as they found around 22 kg gold worth over Rs six crore.

Later, Sahar police informed  the AIU officials and handed over the arrested accused to them for further investigation. Top officials of Mumbai Police on learning of the outstanding work done by hotel staffers, in turn felicitated them.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP-Zone VIII) Anil Kumbhare and Senior Police Inspector (SPI) from Sahar police felicitated Vivek Hanumant Vayadande (37), Manjit Gurdeep Singh and Vipul Arun Mangale for doing a good job.

According to Police sources, both the arrested accused Abdalla Ali and  Ibrahim Ali Hussein  were residing in the hotel for the  last 24 hours and were planning to catch a flight, but before that they were caught by police with the help of trio of alert hotel staffers.

The crew members arrived by flight KQ 210 and carried 22826.500 grams of gold. The accused had concealed the gold in specially made knee caps and waist belt which was wornunder their trousers. The goods were valued at Rs. 6,37,50,991, further investigation is in progress, police added.

It is a humongous catch by Mumbai police in the gold seizure case, as always AIU officials used to catch them before crossing the Airport boundary.
“We were also shocked how these people had  given the slip to AIU officials and reached the hotel,”  police officials  further added.
