Construction expected to start by the year end

The work of the Samruddhi corridor, also known as the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway, will start very soon. According to official sources, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has acquired nearly 75 per cent of the land for the construction of the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway.

Earlier, the work of the chief minister’s pet project was slated to start in 2017, and the first phase was supposed to be operational by 2019. However, due to the land acquisition issues, the construction of the expressway has been delayed, claimed sources. So far, nearly 75 per cent of the land has been acquired for the Rs 46,000 crore chief minister’s pet project. Apart from it, sources claimed that once the land acquisition reaches around 90 per cent, the road development corporation will float the tenders to start the construction of the Samruddi corridor (Mumbai-Nagpur expressway).

A senior MSRDC official claimed that the expressway is facing a lot of opposition from  farmers in Nashik. However, officials claimed that the land will be acquired soon. “Once we acquire around 90 per cent of the land, we will float the tenders for the construction of the corridor”, said Radheshyam Mopalwar, Managing Director, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).

Apart from it, the MSRDC is planning to plant nearly 663 trees and plantations on either side of the corridor. Along with it, the number of trees required to be chopped off for the construction of the corridor may reach around two lakhs, claimed sources. “We will use the trees which we will be cutting for the construction of the entire corridor. The expressway will have nearly 663 trees on either side of it as a part of natural beautification,” said a senior official, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).
