Correct your Aadhaar Card details following these simple steps

The Aadhaar Card was a program launched by the Indian government in 2009 with the intent of ensuring a universal identity for every Indian resident. Today it has become a mandatory 12 digit identity number for every citizen of this country.

Aadhaar Card ensures a number of convenient benefits for all Indians as well as SME India. Direct benefit transfers, free zero balance savings account under Jan Dhan Yojana, quick passport in 10 days and linking of voter card and monthly pension, are just some of them. Aadhaar Card surely streamlines a lot of vital processes!

Since Aadhaar Card holds your essential information and your biometric data, it is important to understand how to correct any information on it that may be fed incorrectly. Follow the steps given below for updating/correcting any data online:

1. Visit resident.uidai.gov.in.

2. Now log in with your Aadhaar number.

3. Submit your Aadhaar Card name change / correction / surname change request online.

4. Scan and upload supporting self-attested Identity proof document for the same.

5. Fill in the OTP number sent to your registered mobile number to avoid chances of errors and manipulation.

6. Save the URN that will be generated after you submit the form for future reference/account of your request.

If you do not feel confident about changing your details online, you can follow the steps given below to make changes in your Aadhaar card information via post.

1. Visit https://uidai.gov.in/images/UpdateRequestFormV2.pdf and download the Aadhaar corrections form.

2. Fill in the details that need to be updated. Remember to read the guidelines before you do so.

3. Put together the supporting documents to update the details. Make sure that they match the documents as per the UIDAI requirements.

4. Send the completed form and the documents to UIDAI, Post Box No. 99, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad – 500034 India.

Upon receiving your request, UIDAI will send you an acknowledgment over SMS.

You can also physically visit an Aadhaar Card enrolment centre, set up by UIDAI, and get your details updated there. By going to a centre you can also update biometric information such as your fingerprint scan or iris scan. This method saves you extensive paperwork and ensures swift updating of information, including verification.

Under the new scheme of things for SME India, consider it important to get your Aadhaar card issued/corrected for future benefits. This is because, with time, more and more government schemes are being launched making it a mandatory document for growth and development.
