Not many are aware, that music-savvy cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar is a huge fan of iconic composer-singer R D Burman’s repertoire of chartbusting music, which he considers as ‘timeless’ . Today, on RDB’s 24th death anniversary, his legion of loyal ardent fans will either be listening to, humming,  or even dancing to his pulsating music tracks.  In his exclusive tribute published in the popular memoirs book ‘R D BurMania’, the modest Gavaskar reveals  that “from among dozens of (RDB) Pancham-da’s film albums, ‘Teesri Manzil’ is my favourite. And Shammi Kapoor’s agile dancing made it even more memorable ”. The articulate ‘Sunny’ goes ‘all out’ to praise RDB’s strokes of versatile genius.  “ The composer who gave such beautiful Westernised guitar-strumming in ‘Teesri Manzil and ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’, also gave us the soft, lilting, haunting songs in ‘Amar Prem’ and ‘Aap Ki Kasam’. Am sure the Gods above were starving for good music, and so took RDB away from us at such a young age,”sighs Sunil wistfully.
