More Of This And That

Friday, November 23, 2018

In the hiatus between two big films, when the only movies that come out are the small ones and long-delayed Sunny Deol projects, here's another installment of this and that.

When Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh got married in Italy, presumably to maintain their privacy and keep away the paparazzi, then why do they release hundreds of pictures of their wedding? Then people make inane comments like “they look so happy” (why wouldn’t they?), or the wedding pictures were “not impressive” (why would they care?)

Now the media is in for a second round of dizzy coverage this year, when Priyanka Chopra gets married! And then Alia Bhatt will have to answer the wedding questions, since she is the only one in relationship (with Ranbir Kapoor) limelight, while others singles like Katrina Kaif and Sonakshi Sinha, have not made any direct or indirect revelations about their love lives.

There was a time when female stars put off getting married till their careers started fizzling out, due to the myth that audiences did not want to see married heroines. Some actors—like Aamir Khan—kept their marriages under wraps too, till their first few films released.  So it’s good to see that stars are getting married at the peak of their careers, continuing to make movies, have kids and go on working. Well, the good films run, regardless of the marital status of the actress, or, for that matter, her age. A post-fifty Neena Gupta carried off Badhaai Ho (and let nobody argue that she was not the leading lady!), but, it would take a miracle to make something like, say, Helicopter Eela work.

Also, good to note, that stars are slowly throwing caution to the winds—Arjun Kapoor and Malaika Arora are not exactly keeping their alleged romance under wraps. Sunny Deol must be the last of the movie stars who guards his privacy, but heck, even he can’t escape Indians with camera phones in any part of the world.

It was rather gracious of Shah Rukh Khan and Suniel Shetty to make statements in support ofThugs Of Hindostan. Most industry folks are condescending at best, even about others’ success; failures are quickly buried. See how Sania Malhotra’s list of films omits Pataakha!

Looks like Taapsee Pannu, Bhumi Pednekar and Nawazuddin Siddiqui spend as much time giving interviews as they do working on their films. Which, makes one wonder if some stars get their answers ghost-written; who can sound so calm, collected, wise and woke all the time?

Media favourite Kangana Ranaut seems to flying under the radar of late, while Swara Bhaskar seems to be busy fighting duels on Twitter.
Can stars, who claim to cherish privacy, go on vacation without posting their photos with corny captions?

Can stars perform an act of charity without sending out a press release?
