Being frequently misused ‘love’ is losing its value: Varun Dhawan

Crazy as it may sound, the Indo-British model-actress ‘sonni kudi’ Banita Sandhu who plays the heroine in this path-breaking ‘October’ movie (releasing this Friday) was blissfully oblivious to her debonair hero Varun Dhawan’s ‘mega-star’ status in Bollywood.

“Maybe it also worked to my advantage because I was ‘not’ in ‘awe’ of him when I started shooting with Varun. Of course, I have a basic knowledge of Hindi movies thanks to my mom who is a huge Bollywood buff. Our filmy screen-connects have been mainly with the three senior Khans and my favourite happens to be Aamir Khan, “ confides Banita in her clipped  British accent.

The effervescent Banita  was first spotted by film-writer Juhi Chaturvedi in the popular 'Double Mint' ad commercial remixed jingle ‘Ek Ajnabee Haseena Se’.   The ‘October’ director Shoojit  Sircar (of ‘Piku’ fame) reveals  that originally he was scouting for all ‘fresh faces’ for the entire cast of this movie. “But when the unassuming Varun personally came to my office and wished to work with me, I was impressed by his passion like a ‘newcomer’ to also act in ‘classy content’ movies besides the commercial entertainers. Actually he was the last actor who came on board,” chuckles  Shoojit-da.

Meanwhile, the ‘grounded’ Varun who plays an authentic hotel management intern-trainee in ‘October’  shares that “it’s not a conventional love story but you will fall in love with our endearing characters. Unfortunately, in today’s high-tech era, ‘love’ is a frequently-abused or maybe a ‘misused’ word and is losing its precious value. One must often try and use the word ‘like’, instead of ‘love’,” insists Varun, wearing his charismatic ‘lady-killer’ smile.
